Unlock Energy Savings with Smart Business Energy Procurement

Reduce Your Business Energy Bills with Informed Procurement Choices

In today’s fluctuating energy market, choosing the right procurement strategy can make a significant impact on your business’s bottom line. A savvy energy procurement approach not only shields your organisation from volatile price spikes but also opens doors to substantial savings. Let’s dive into some essential procurement strategies and tips to help your business minimise its energy costs.

Benefits of Smarter Energy Procurement

Why Energy Procurement Matters
Energy procurement is more than just finding the lowest rate—it’s about designing a purchasing strategy that aligns with your business needs and the market’s ups and downs.

  • Long-term Savings: With the right procurement plan, you can secure lower rates and predictability for years to come.
  • Reduced Market Risk: Strategic procurement hedges against energy price volatility.
  • Sustainability: Many procurement plans incorporate green energy options, helping you meet environmental goals.

Key Strategies for Cost-Effective Energy Procurement

Flexible Procurement Plans for Better Control
Many businesses still use fixed-price contracts, which can be safe but often miss out on lower rates. Flexible procurement offers more control, allowing you to purchase energy in stages based on market trends, meaning you buy more energy when prices are low and less when they rise.

Which Procurement Plan is Right for You?

  1. Fixed-Rate Plans
    Benefit: Stability and Predictability
Fixed-rate contracts lock in a price for a set period, making budgeting easy. This is ideal for businesses that value budget certainty.
  2. Flexible Procurement
    Benefit: Cost-Efficiency in Changing Markets
By purchasing energy over time, flexible plans capture market dips, providing cost savings. Companies using over 7 million kWh often see up to 15% savings on flexible plans.
  3. Green Procurement
    Benefit: Sustainable Choices
Choosing renewable energy sources for a portion or all of your energy needs can reduce your carbon footprint and often has government incentives attached.

Real Stories of Energy Procurement Success

Retail Chain
A UK retail chain used a flexible procurement plan and saved £200,000 over three years by buying electricity in segments based on market rates. With energy representing 10% of their overheads, this had a powerful impact on their bottom line and improved their competitive edge.

Manufacturing Plant
In a study on green procurement, a manufacturing plant switched to a renewable-focused procurement plan. Not only did it reduce their carbon footprint by 25%, but they also took advantage of tax incentives and rebates.

Who Can Benefit?

Procurement strategies can benefit a range of industries, from manufacturing to hospitality:

  • Manufacturing Plants
  • Retail Chains
  • Hospitality & Leisure
  • Healthcare Facilities

Smart energy procurement can be a game-changer for businesses. With the right plan, you’re not just keeping the lights on; you’re taking control of costs and embracing a sustainable future. Whether fixed, flexible, or green procurement aligns best, every business can find a way to reduce expenses and make more strategic energy choices.
